Would You Like An Earthquake Detector With Your Cable Service?

Itscom-Quake Warning System

A Tokyo based broadband and communications provider will begin offering an earthquake warning system to subscribers starting on October 1st 2007. These little modem-like boxes will stand on guard 24/7 forecasting quake arrival times along with the seismic intensity ten seconds before the tremors occur. That’s just enough time to piss your pants and freak out.

The earthquake warning boxes can be set up in each room of the home for 23,000 yen ( $202 ) for the main unit. A Cordless unit will set you back 13,000 yen ( $114 ). No monthly fee is involved. — Sean Fallon
